Nature Reserve Along the Rachel Carlson Trail
The Crouse Run Nature Reserve is part of the Rachel Carson Trail here in Southwestern, PA. This is a nature trail that Morgan and I walk pretty frequently; running along the Crouse Run waterway, there is always a distant and peaceful sound of running water. It’s also worth mentioning the unique vegetation on each side of the trail too!
Within the first quarter mile or so of the trail, there is an old cement outline of a structure. We aren’t entirely sure what used to stand here, but we do know that there was a possible rail station at or around this location. Do we know that the remains belong to the station itself? No we don’t, but the mind can definitely imagine a station-looking-shape filling in the remains.
I definitely recommend this trail to everyone I come across. There are some more difficult parts that take place in the last 50% of the trail, but it’s fairly beginner level up until then with some waterway crossings (when entering from the Wildwood Rd entry point). Let me know if you go on this trail and share any pictures you take too! 📸
